Loss Prevention Manager

Department: Security & Loss Prevention

Location: Calgary, AB (#400, 229 - 33rd Street NE Calgary, Alberta T2A 4Y6)

Type of employment: Permanent, Full Time (40 hours)

THE ROLE

We are currently hiring for a Loss Prevention Manager to join our Western Canada team. Reporting to the Safety, Security & Loss Prevention Senior Manager, Western Canada, the Loss Prevention Manager will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security for our customers, team members, property and assets. This job identifies exposures, limits loss, and maximizes profits while fostering the goals and direction of the company through effective implementation and monitoring of loss prevention (LP) policies and procedures. This position is based in Calgary but will also require scheduled and emergency response travel within Western Canada (BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and NWT-Yellowknife), as required.

The Loss Prevention Manager will play a critical role in meeting department objectives by maintaining a culture of safety, loss prevention awareness, building community partnerships and driving strategies to reduce shrinkage.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Develops crime prevention strategies and review industry best practices in a constant effort to maintain the safety of staff and customers, while protecting the assets of the company
  • Evaluates store processes for areas of opportunity, review and analyze regional store shrink performance, identify store/district specific trends, utilize audit results to address deficiencies and monitor corrective action, communicate areas of opportunity to store management and District Managers
  • Implements and monitors the loss prevention policies, procedures and programs to ensure the programs are aligned with the Company’s goals and objectives and applicable laws and regulations
  • Utilizes exception reporting, information, CCTV and POS data to identify incidents of theft/fraud trends, policy and procedure violations, maintain case files, logs, and reports
  • Investigates acts of criminality and civil litigation, and partner with applicable Operations staff during Investigations
  • Oversees the day-to-day operations in the loss prevention
  • Works in close conjunction with Accounting & Operations Team to identify potential cases of fraud and theft
  • Liaises with local law enforcement, colleagues within the Security/Loss Prevention industry, professional security/loss prevention associations
  • Facilitates meetings and training to all levels of store operations
  • Reviews progress related to the timely execution of shrink reduction plans, partners with District Managers on store visits to ensure a high level of business partnership between Security and store operations
  • May act as a representative in legal proceedings
  • May act as the media spokesperson for all security related incidents
  • Is available on a 24/7 basis to respond to safety and security issues, such as robberies, assaults etc.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Education

  • A post-secondary University degree or College diploma in a related discipline (i.e. Law Enforcement, Security Management, Safety Management, Criminology, Law, Police Foundations, etc.). Combination of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • Must be certified in areas of investigative techniques, investigative interviewing and CPTED.
  • Must hold a current Security Investigator/Guard’s license in a minimum of one Western Province.

Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience overseeing a Security/ Loss Prevention Department within a multi-unit retail environment

Knowledge and skills:

  • A current valid Canadian driver’s license with clean abstract is required to operate company vehicle.
  • Skilled in MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.
  • Technical proficiency in computer systems, software applications, and networking principles related to security systems.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of laws and regulations, including the Employment Standards Act and Human Rights
  • Associated with Security/Loss Prevention industry professional associations
  • Working knowledge of all facets of retail loss prevention, including provincial and federal laws of retail loss prevention
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and multi- task with minimal supervision
  • Effective presentation skills and highly developed interpersonal skills for dealing with confidential and sensitive information and situations
  • Ability to travel extensively (minimum 60% of the time), work nights and weekends appropriate to retail

  • Availability 24/7 “On Call” to respond to urgent matters.
