About the BCLDB:

The BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) is one of two branches of government that provide oversight for the beverage alcohol and non-medical cannabis industries in the province. The LDB is responsible for the wholesale distribution of liquor and cannabis, and operates the retails brands BCLIQUOR and BC Cannabis Stores.

The LDB Wholesale Operations team is responsible for the registration, procurement, customs clearance, selling and distribution of liquor products for the province of British Columbia. Our stakeholders comprise approximately 1200 suppliers, over 800 retail outlets and 9000 licensed establishments. Working in collaboration with our suppliers and agents, our vision is to provide a reliable and efficient service to support the success of our customers. There are five key divisions within the business; Supply Chain, Pricing, Imports, Customer Service and Distribution. Each of our teams work closely in alignment with each other to provide a seamless customer experience and deliver our service goals.

About this role:

The Wholesale Allocator is an integral part of the supply chain, responsible for the accurate purchasing and processing of pre-assigned product. This product tends to be new product launches, seasonal gift packs and specialty product launches and is therefore time sensitive and can have an impact on the customer's orders. Additionally, the Allocator is responsible for facilitating he movement of bonded beer across provinces, the movement of beer from the bonded warehouses to the retail accounting centre, the maintenance of beer inventory in the bonded warehouses and the accurate entering of promotional data that is used by the demand planners.

The LDB Wholesale Allocator works with suppliers, warehouse agents and retailers to ensure that both pre-assigned and requested product moves through the supply chain within time sensitive deadlines. The Allocator is responsible for liaising with suppliers and retailers, ensuring that pre-assigned orders are purchased, allocated and picked. Additional responsibilities include processing requests from agents for beer in bond transfers between provincial jurisdictions, the processing of "Hold of Goods" where the inventory of stale dated, over-allocated or damaged beer product is adjusted. Requests from 3rd party agent warehouses to transfer product into the Retail Accounting Centre (RAC) are handling along with any corrections to RAC that are requested by finance. Product promotional activity is keyed into the central product data (CPD) for the Demand Planner to reference.

Work takes place in a standard office environment.

Position requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Degree/diploma in business management, purchasing and inventory control, or related.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of recent, related experience*.

*Recent, related experience must have occurred in the last 5 years and must include the following:

  • Preparing, reconciling and updating product allocations or orders.
  • Working with Oracle Ebiz, a warehouse management system, or a commercially developed purchasing system.
  • Collaborating with a variety of internal and external partners (i.e., marketing, vendors/suppliers, etc.).

Preference may be given to those candidates with any of the following:

  • Experience in Retail/Merchandising/Wholesale/Distribution business environment.
  • Experience with forecasting and inventory management.
  • Experience with allocation.
