Description

The Thrift Store Clerk provides service to customers, sorts incoming products, and assists in the ongoing retail operations of The Salvation Army Thrift Store.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet customers and donors in a friendly manner and provide excellent customer service
  • Assist in keeping the Store tidy, clean, organized, and stocked with merchandise
  • Sort & Price donations as directed
  • Answer the phone efficiently in a polite and professional manner
  • Work as a productive team member and independently when necessary.
  • All other store-related duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a permanent, part-time position based on 24 hours per week.
  • Schedule will include weekdays and Saturday's and may vary from week to week.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required.
  • Ability to stand for long periods with frequent twisting, bending, crouching, and reaching is required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada by relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Some related experience in warehouse processing or goods distribution would be a definite asset.
  • Knowledge of lifting guidelines would be a definite asset.

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • Ability to successfully undergo applicable screening and background checks that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry), and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Maintain information in confidence as required
  • Participate as an active and responsible team member.
  • Represent the organization professionally and engagingly.
  • Brand awareness would be an asset.
  • Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills, and respect authority
  • Self-motivated/disciplined.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a cooperative team-oriented atmosphere.
