Description

The retail floor supervisor ensures the efficient and effective pricing, merchandizing and selling of donated goods under the direction of the Thrift Store Manager. The incumbent will provide team leadership to retail floor Mission Partners and will be responsible for the daily administration and operation of the retail floor.

Hours:

  • 37.5 per hour

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists Thrift Store Manager in directing operations of the Thrift store to meet sales targets, and control expenses while maintaining customer service standards.
  • May participate in the hiring, orientation, training, and recognizing of employees and volunteers in concert with Divisional and Territorial standards.
  • Takes responsibility for staff safety by ensuring overall compliance with all safety procedures and by monitoring Health & Safety policies and procedures and provides feedback to the Store Manager.
  • Participates in planning the store layout to attract customers including window displays; has input on in-store promotions and keeps abreast of marketing trends by checking competitors' stock; ensures attractiveness of store through "Tidy Maintenance."
  • Upholds merchandizing standards for the store as set by the Merchandizing Supervisor
  • Ensures appropriate inventory levels based on spot checks of the store and reviewing weekly sales records.
  • Protects store from inventory shrinkage by monitoring loss prevention program and close visual monitoring.
  • May assist with the analysis of store financial statements and strategize appropriate actions to attain financial goals, monitoring the cost of goods in compliance with the budget
  • Oversees and/or participates in facility management including cleaning, maintenance, repairs in/outside and grounds maintenance.
  • Ensures in-store safety for staff and customers (e.g. snow removal, clear fire exists, no obstacles inside/outside store, spillage, store cleanliness dealing with volatile situations); ensure property is secures at all times.
  • May lock up sales cash and receipts at the end of each shift.
  • Ensures nightly sales are deposited to the appropriate financial institution.
  • Ensures staffing levels are adequate by utilizing both paid and unpaid mission partners for mission effectiveness.
  • Assists with reporting, scheduling and payroll.
  • Works with the warehouse, production and retail floor teams to establish promotional sales, shrinkage prevention, promote quality control, reach sales targets.
  • Reviews reports to assess department performance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract

Experience:

  • 2-3 years of retail experience required

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • The ability to provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required, including Child Check (if appropriate).
