Retail Buyer

Job Responsibilities:

• Plan, develop, and implement purchasing strategies to ensure product quality and quantity for long-term and seasonal sales and inventory
• Purchase merchandise for resale by retail or wholesale establishments
• Review establishment's requirements to determine the quantity and type of merchandise to purchase
• Study market reports, trade periodicals, promotional materials, and visit trade shows, showrooms, factories, and product design events to select merchandise that best meets the establishment’s needs
• Maintain and update product data
• Interview suppliers and negotiate prices, discounts, credit terms, and transportation arrangements
• Oversee the distribution of merchandise to outlets and maintain adequate stock levels
• Establish and maintain contact with suppliers
• Provide regular reporting updates as required

Qualifications:

• 1+ years of relevant work experience
• Completion of secondary school; a university degree or college diploma in business, marketing, or a related program is preferred
• Ability to work under pressure, produce results, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multitasking in a dynamic environment
• Previous work experience in retail or wholesale establishments
• Supervisory or senior buyer experience in procurement or specific merchandise lines is an asset
