Please note:
• The positions' headquarters are located at 5090 Commerce Boulevard, Mississauga; however, the successful candidate may work from other locations in Ontario. The successful candidate will report to Mississauga office, when required.
•The work location will be determined based on the location of the successful candidate.
• You will work zero to 36.25 hours per week, including the weekends and statutory holidays as required.

About the job

In this role, you will:
• lead, support and conduct major investigations
• examine scenes, assess damages and gather/preserve evidence
• provide group leadership, guidance, expertise and technical support to field investigators
• assign work to field staff, set priorities, monitor work and review for quality and compliance
• appear as witness or supportive witness in criminal/civil proceedings, coroners inquests, or any other form of hearing
• provide all information obtained during the investigation
• provide training and guidance to staff

What you bring to the team

Mandatory:

• You must have a valid class "G" driver's licence or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario to travel to investigation sites across Ontario, often on short notice.

Analytical and Reasoning Skills:

• You can conduct investigations, assess and interpret evidence, evaluate investigative results, and determine cause
• You can analyze circumstances and make recommendations
• You can review occurrences, identify and assess trends and patterns requiring further investigation

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

• You have knowledge of investigative techniques/theories, procedures and practices to determine investigation requirements by identifying likely and potential sources of evidence
• You have knowledge of courtroom procedures
• You can provide direction to police personnel at scenes
• You have the ability to interpret and apply relevant legislations, regulations, common law, and statutes (example: Special Investigations Unit Act, 2019, Criminal Code, Freedom of Information Act, Charter of Rights, Provincial Offences Act, Rights to Privacy Act, Young Offenders Act, Highway Traffic Act, Ontario Evidence Act)

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

• You can explain and discuss interpretation of evidence and related legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines regarding the incident
• You can provide testimony in court or at coroners inquests
• You have presentation skills to deliver lectures, seminars and attend meetings
• You can prepare crown briefs as well as reports
• You have interpersonal skills to reconcile differing interpretations of evidence, persuade stakeholders for appropriate follow-up to ensure compliance with methods, models, and concepts of investigations, as well as facilitate discussions amongst agencies involved in an investigation

Group Leadership Skills:

• You demonstrate group leadership skills to assign and coordinate work of field investigators
• You can coach/mentor and provide on the job training and guidance
