Position Summary...

The Manager, Controllership is responsible for the completeness and accuracy of the Balance Sheet and P&L activities related to function assigned. They partner with Commercial Finance, Enterprise Business Services (EBS) and business partners to ensure financial statement accuracy and an efficient control environment is maintained in accordance with company policies and US GAAP. The position will continuously identify, recommend and implement process improvements and support the accounting requirements for new and existing business initiatives.

What you'll do...

1. Manages the accounting and reporting of assigned area to ensure compliance with US GAAP and Walmart global accounting policies. Work closely with the Business Partners and EBS teams to maintain current state and improve current processes for the proper accounting for area assigned.
2.Provide guidance to Commercial Finance and business partners for accounting guidance per policy and to influence changes to vendor agreements, where possible, for most appropriate business outcome. This includes providing training and guidance on operational processes and thresholds per Walmart US GAAP policies and procedures.
3.Maintain SOX documentation and financial controls over assigned area.Ensures reporting compliance by developing, communicating, and ensuring consistent application of Walmart policies, rules, and regulations; reviewing, evaluating, and interpreting internal financial statements and supporting documentation for compliance with accounting and reporting regulations and ensuring compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
4.Oversee assigned balance sheet accounts, and financial audits for each assigned business area by analyzing financial data; comparing data to third-party information, budgets, or actual results; researching and reviewing research of balance sheet account variances; discussing business impacts to the profit and loss within US GAAP and accounting standards; ensuring internal and external audits are managed for timelines and accuracy; and facilitating the relationship between team, internal customers, and external specialists. Review and approve journal entries performed by EBS, ensuring financial transactions are validated to appropriate supporting documentation and provide assistance to business segments in dealing with system control changes for financial processing.
5.Establish close relationship with business partners, EBS shared services and US counterparts to leverage best practices and identify opportunities and implement improvement on controls, processes, systems, policies and procedures. Manage processes by working closely with US Global Controllership Office to research emerging trends and standards of external governing bodies; utilizing knowledge of US GAAP and internal controls over financial reporting to perform financial statement analysis and accounting; identifying, correcting, and reporting discrepancies in financial statements and accounting transactions to ensure compliance with government reporting requirements and statutory filing procedures.
6.Promotes and supports company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by training and providing direction to others in their use and application; ensuring compliance with them; and utilizing and supporting the Open Door Policy.
7.Ensures business partner needs are being met by evaluating the ongoing effectiveness of current processes, programs, and initiatives; consulting with business partners, managers, co-workers, or other key stakeholders; and soliciting, evaluating, and applying suggestions for improving efficiency and cost effectiveness.
8.Have an in depth understanding of end to end system, process and accounting for function assigned in order to manage the research and analysis of issues within role scope. Highlight and remediate issues and bring forward resolution plans to senior leadership.

Qualifications:

  • College or University Degree
  • 3 + years of experience in controllership function
  • CPA qualification is an asset
