The Advisor, Human Resources enhances the employment experience for new and existing employees of Holt Renfrew by coordinating and executing a wide variety of programs to support the attraction, selection, engagement, development and retention of talent. In addition, as a trusted advisor to the associates, this role provides sound HR counsel on the interpretation and application of HR policies, procedures, programs and relevant federal and provincial employment legislation.

Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Is the first point of contact for non-management employees for a wide variety of Human Resources matters; provides guidance and advice to employees in the interpretation and application of HR policies and procedures, informing on relevant federal and provincial employment legislation, advising on routine employee relations matters. Escalates complex issues to HR Business Partner
  • Assist management in the hiring of the best associates by coordinating recruitment events and activities that drives the attraction of new talent and builds strong candidates pipeline
  • Support and maintain a culture of strong employee engagement by seeking and/or coordinating continuous feedback from associates through floor walks, 1-1 meetings, and focus groups; identifies issues and trends and makes recommendations for changes as required; coordinates employee engagement events and activities
  • Actively participates in the coordination of HR programs including annual performance review process, training, and development, recruitment and selection, compensation and employee benefits, employee onboarding and health and safety
  • Supports the HR Business Partner in the execution of People & Culture strategies, local People Plans, projects, programs, and policies
  • Provides training and guidance to leaders on the use of Human Resources systems, programs and tools; investigates and troubleshoot problems when required.
  • Supports leaders in the resolution of issues related to employment such as employment documentation, pay and benefits, and other employment programs.
  • Works as a member of the broader HR team, including Center of Excellence (COEs), to resolve issues, provide information on new/emerging trends, provide feedback and support the execution programs
  • Performing and advising on key HR project work and working with HR Business Partner to support the achievement of HR objectives
  • Facilitates workshops and information sessions as required
  • Compiling data, statistics, reports and other information and conducting research as required;
  • Liaise with Disability Management and Managers on employee leave of absences
  • Additional tasks, assignments or responsibilities as assigned

The ideal candidate:

  • Post-secondary degree or equivalent work experience
  • 3-5 years of post-university work experience in a Human Resources Advisory capacity
  • HR designation is preferred
  • Understanding of provincial employment legislation
  • Effective time management, planning and organization skills
  • Ability to manage competing demands, and operate through focus, self-direction, initiative and sense of urgency to see projects through to completion
  • Demonstrated problem solving and conflict-resolution skills
  • Solid influencing skills with the ability to get things done
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; a team player who is able to act as both a leader and an individual contributor as required
  • Confident and effective communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Is adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity and change
  • Highly service-oriented with exceptional organizational and follow up skills
  • Strong computer skills are required including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
