ABOUT THE ROLE:

Join Sephora as a Senior Manager, Payroll, where you will play a pivotal role in ensuring our payroll operations run smoothly and efficiently. As the key leader in this space, you will manage timely and accurate payroll processing and oversee AskHR front-office tickets related to payroll and other client-facing case-management operations. Reporting directly to the Director, HR Shared Services, you will lead a dynamic team of payroll contractors and steer strategic initiatives to optimize payroll operations. This is an incredible opportunity for a seasoned payroll professional with a deep understanding of payroll compliance, Canadian tax regulations, and employment standards to shine and drive excellence in our HR functions.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Payroll Operations & Compliance:

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for a large workforce, including hourly and salaried employees
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian federal and provincial tax laws, including T4 filings, CPP, EI remittances, and vacation pay requirements
  • Conduct regular audits of payroll systems to maintain accuracy and compliance
  • Stay updated on changes in payroll legislation and employment standards to implement necessary adjustments
  • Serve as the payroll subject matter expert within the payroll team, internal stakeholders, auditors, and one of the primary points of contact for our payroll provider
  • Analyze, audit, reconcile and resolve payroll and timekeeping processing and employee payroll issues to ensure compliance with company policy
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams within the company on global mobility, tax, benefits and new business activities to ensure regional payroll needs are identified, considered and communicated
  • Lead the preparation of year-end reporting (T4s, T2200s, WC) and handle amendments as required
  • Develop and enforce internal controls for payroll accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Resolve complex payroll inquiries and tax-related issues promptly
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and external auditors to ensure seamless integration of payroll data
  • Implement process improvements and manage system upgrades or transitions
  • Lead and manage a payroll team, overseeing task assignments, workloads, and creating a collaborative atmosphere to support professional growth and meet payroll deadlines efficiently

Payroll System

  • Lead, in partnership with Sr HRIS Business Partner (Payroll System), evaluation of tools and systems, and identify ways to optimize the payroll function and enable business process transformation while maintaining strong quality controls
  • Identify and implement process improvements for more efficient, accurate, and compliant payroll operations, collaborating with various organizations including IT and external vendors to integrate systems, overseeing and implementing payroll related projects, developing procedures and policies, and providing training on payroll initiatives and changes

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in payroll management, along with proven leadership in mentoring and developing high-performing teams to meet business objectives successfully
  • Hands-on experience working with various Payroll, Time and Attendance and Human Resources Information Systems, and Payroll Service Providers
  • 2+ years of experience in a Case Management/Contact Center environment
  • Bachelor's degree in related field required
  • PCP preferred
  • Experience with Dayforce application is a plus
  • Proven track record of scaling payroll function and experience transforming payroll operations efficiency
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, including the ability to manage effectively numerous concurrent projects and tasks in a fast-paced and rapidly growing environment
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll laws, including CRA requirements and provincial employment standards
  • Excellent written and oral communications including change management
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making abilities
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, strong ability to proactively identify and implement effective solution
  • Demonstrated delivery of results through influence and cross-functional collaboration
