About the role

We are looking for a SQF Practitioner & Food Safety Coordinator to join our team!

The SQF Practitioner & Food Safety Coordinator is responsible for working with the Production, Fulfillment and Head Office teams to ensure strict quality control guidelines are followed. They maintain quality records, documentation and conduct Quality Assurance assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Update and maintain the company’s food safety plan (GMPs, HACCP and SQF).
  • Update and maintain other certification programs (such as Organic, Kosher).
  • Oversee plant sanitation, hygiene, GMP and internal auditing systems to ensure compliance with quality policies, as well as, applicable food safety regulatory requirements.
  • Review and validate Quality Technician monitoring activities.
  • Verifies effectiveness of the cleaning program, including allergen swabbing, maintains documentation and makes recommendations for modification.
  • Support operational and quality activities to ensure audit ready status every day.
  • Routinely audit food safety practices to objectively evaluate performance and provide feedback to other personnel, as necessary, to ensure compliance; this includes the auditing of SOP’s, HACCP, GMP’s and all food safety policies and procedures that apply to the plant.
  • Assist in developing and oversee the maintenance of the plant food safety training program.
  • Provide training to employees and contractors, as required.
  • Lead audits by certifying bodies, independent third parties, customers, internal and regulatory entities. This includes being able to provide policies, procedures, and records for review by the auditor.
  • Investigate customer complaints, audit findings, food safety incidents, etc. Assist in the identification of root cause associated corrective actions, verification of the completion of corrective action/preventative actions, and validation of the effectiveness of the corrective actions.
  • Facilitate the investigation, documentation, and tracking of food safety incidents to ensure incident investigations and corrective actions are performed in a timely manner and well documented.
  • Assist in the investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions, and validate the effectiveness of the corrective actions.
  • Cross-train with Quality Technician to provide backup support, as needed.
  • Complete other duties or responsibilities as assigned by immediate supervisor.

Requirements

  • An applicable college diploma, University Degree such as BSc or equivalent work experience.
  • 3 Years’ experience in maintaining a Food Safety Program.
  • SQF internal audit and fundamentals of HACCP training certifications or equivalent.
  • Experience taking a leading role in Food Safety Audits would be an asset.
  • Excellent French and English communication skills (oral and written).
  • Friendly, confident, outgoing and positive attitude.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent organization, time management, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Be able to take direction and work independently.
  • Expertise using Excel, Word, Outlook and knowledge of web-based applications.
  • Keeps up to date on technological information.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, strong communication skills, independence, curiosity and efficiency are desired qualities.
